Hello, my name is Riley.
I have been programming for longer than I remember, though I regard 2015 as the year when I would begin to describe myself as someone who actually knows what they’re doing. I have been using C# since 2014, Ruby since 2017 and C/C++ since 2018.
In my time programming I have created several video games, some of which can be found here. I have experience in the Unity and Godot game engines, and briefly worked with Unity in a professional capacity in 2022 as a side project for a software company I was working for at the time. I have also written my own game engines using OpenGL in the past.
I have also written music for video games, both my own projects and various independent/hobbyist projects on the internet.

Roguelite Pokémon fan-game with a twist, moves can be replaced with passive abilities that can buff, synergise with or completely break the rest of your move set. Created for the 2026 Eevee Expo Summer Game Jam.Placebo is one of the first games I have worked on and provided very little gameplay contributions. Aside from drafting half of one map, a majority of my work was in the form of writing, character art, and a full set of dynamic, smoothly animated user interfaces. These user interfaces were the biggest time sink and made up the majority of my work on the game over the month long game jam, all implemented using a custom UI animation framework for RPG Maker XP that I developed alongside. I find working on flashy visuals like this in old RPG Maker games quite interesting, we were using an enhanced version of the RPG Maker XP runtime that provides some additional features that would have historically been provided by clever use of Windows only API calls, but we were still mostly limited to plainly drawing sprites as the runtime does not allow for the use of custom shaders. Through clever use of sprite masking, bitmap manipulation and RPG Maker’s blend modes and colour manipulation, as well as the aforementioned animations, I was able to create what I would describe as some of the most complex user interfaces you will ever see in any RPG Maker game.
After the release of the jam version, the co-lead developers relinquished all duties to me so that they could return to developing their first commercial indie title, leaving me as the sole developer. I’ll primarily be fixing bugs and balance issues, though I have also been writing a soundtrack to replace the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet tracks used in the jam version.

Roguelite Pokémon fan-game adventure inspired by the knowledge based progression seen in games like Outer Wilds. Created during the fourth Relic Castle Winter Game Jam.Creating this game involved planning an intricate story predominantly told through scraps of "lore" scattered throughout the game in the form of old letters, computer logs and environmental cues. To compliment the exploration oriented gameplay, I shipped the game with a larger, wider screen resolution than what is typically found in an RPG Maker game, which required a full redesign of the game's user interfaces and battle scene to accomodate the larger screen size.
The game went on to win community spotlight.
